Nat Greene Flyfishers June 2009==================================================== NAT GREENE CALENDARMEETINGS & EVENTSJune 9, 2009 - “Uncle” Cecil Chapman and Sonny Cashion will be our featured speakers. Uncle Cecil is a local small-stream legend, as well as, an accomplished bamboo and graphite rod builder. He will enlighten us with his small-stream tactics. Sonny Cashion has probably caught more smallmouth and largemouth than I have made casts in my 30 years of fishing. Sonny will entertain us with smallmouth stories and tactics. All are welcome. Door Prizes at every meeting! ==================================================== Volunteers Needed: Saturday June 27th and Saturday July 18th (Greensboro Children's Museum)Nat Greene is honored to have been asked by Ms. Beth Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of the Greensboro Children's Museum, to staff a fly fishing exhibit at the museum from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 27th and Saturday, July 18th. The museum is running an "Outdoor Living" exhibit for children to show all of the wonderful outdoor activities available for children in North Carolina throughout the year. Other local groups will also be represented at this series of events. Nat Greene has committed to provide four volunteers for two hours on each of these two days. Two will demonstrate fly tying and two will demonstrate fly casting. We would also like to have a "flyfishing slide show" projected on a screen in the background -- no public speaking will be required. Use this opportunity to spend a couple hours of your time restocking your fly boxes and brushing up on your casting skills. Better still, give away a few freshly tyed flys to the children or teach them a bit about casting and maybe Nat Greene will gain a few new members! You do not need to be an expert caster or tyer to participate -- if you are a Nat Greene member you are already qualified! Please consider donating an hour or two of your time to help us return some goodwill to our community. If you can help, please send an email to info@natgreeneflyfishers.org by June 15th with your name and phone number and which Saturday (June 27th or July 18th) you would prefer to work. Also: Help Needed at the June Monthly Meeting to Inventory Club Instructional GearWe have been receiving more requests lately from Scout Troops and other local organizations to teach and demonstrate tying and casting, and we need to be better prepared to help them. This is Nat Greene’s primary philanthropic contribution back to the community. The Nat Greene Fly Fishers fly tying kits (12 kits) and fly rods (9 rods & reels) used for instructional purposes are in need of rehabilitation and upgrading. We will have all of our club equipment and tying kits available at this meeting and need help to inventory our kits and to assemble a "wish list" of items for replacement and repair. We hope to leave the meeting with a list of items to be collected over the summer, either new, used, or donated. ====================================================
